The Slog
by John Ward
I apologise to all Sloggers everywhere for the vulgarity of this shot. But it’s been a long day of reading bullsh*t put out by Brussels-am-Berlin, and I felt the need for a cheap shot.
One is reminded of the Marquis of Queensberry turning up at the first night of an Oscar Wilde play, where the playwright was receiving the plaudits of the audience outside the theatre. With him was his beloved homosexual partner Bosie, Queensberry’s son.
Lord Q walked up to Wilde, gave him a bouquet of stinking rotten vegetables, and said, “For Oscar Wilde, a notorious pederast”.
Without missing a beat, Wilde sniffed the bouquet and replied, “Thank you your Lordship. Every time I smell them, I shall think of you”.
